Political Self-Care

I care about a lot of things – political things.
I care that the seams of democracy in the United States feel fragile.
I fear that political violence, which has already taken hold, may only get worse.
I care that too often – full freedoms are not provided to people who don’t look, think, or act like me.
I fear for their safety too.
I care for Mother Nature.
I fear Her wrath.
I wish I could do something about everything.
And believe me, I try.
But I remember words sprawled on a board in a high school classroom.
“Do what you can, with what you have, wherever you are.”
I am a Baltic-American.
My Congress is an important protector of my ancestral homeland.
For the Baltics, I can meet with Congress.
With a bit of help, I can ask them to take specific, tangible actions.
Because freedom not only takes a fight to be gained.
It takes a fight to be protected.
Protect Eesti. Protect Latvija. Protect Lietuva.
