Thank you for reading the first Baltivist Bells post! Baltivist Bells will be about two things:
- Easy, yet effective political actions
- Timely and digestable updates
For the first Baltic Bells action, we want to ask an important question.
What do Estonia, Latvia, or Lithuania mean to you?
How is this effective? Select stories will be shared in person with Congress during the November 8th, Advocacy Day. Congress wants to hear why issues matter to them so they can properly represent their constituents. By handing in your stories to Congress, they will be more open to supporting the Baltics.
Stories will also be shared with the community on social media, here on Baltivist.com, and with other Baltivist Bells subscribers.
- Rep. Shimkus, Republican co-chair of the House Baltic Caucus and proud Lithuanian descendant, announced on August 30th that he will retire from Congress after serving in Congress since 1997. Members of the Lithuanian American Community Public Affairs Board thanked him for his years of service in September.
- S. 1790, the Defense Authorization Act which would increase military aid to the Baltics from $100 million to $125 million, passed the 2nd chamber of Congress on September 17th and is awaiting consideration in conference committee.
