An Open Letter to Secretary of State Blinken Asking to Support Central & Eastern Europe

Dear Secretary Blinken,

Right now is a difficult time for Central & Eastern Europe.

Belarusians are battling for freedom. There is a war in Donbas and Crimea.

With the waiver of the Nord Stream 2 sanctions, Ukrainians fear a future with their power being controlled, manipulated, or even shut off. Meanwhile, we all watched as dissident Roman Protasevich (in 2nd and 3rd videos) was kidnapped by his dictator.

Again, right now is a difficult time for Central & Eastern Europe. Tomorrow, there is a hearing in the Subcommittee on Europe, Energy, the Environment, and Cyber at 1pm EDT to discuss Russian authoritarianism and kleptocracy. Would you offer your support for us to the subcommittee? Both issues will be discussed during the hearing.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya has also called for a Global Picket of Solidarity for Belarus. There will be a protest at the Belarusian Embassy on Saturday, May 29th. Will you please offer support for the protests?

Thank you,

Vytas Aukštuolis

As a [Lithuanian/Latvian/Estonian] American citizen, I am deeply concerned about the recent waivers enacted by the Biden Administration regarding the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. Such waivers will undoubtedly enable Russia to complete the political pipeline, which would lead to greater energy security threats in Europe and would leave Central & Eastern Europe more vulnerable to increased Russian malign influence.

Additionally, I am disturbed over the interception of the flight by fighter jets that led to the arrest of dissident Roman Protasevich.

I respectfully request the White House to rescind its waiver regarding Nord Stream 2 and to direct the FAA to prohibit U.S. aircraft from entering Belarus’ air space.

(For contacting Congress, you may change the last line to say I respectfully request you to urge the White House to rescind its waiver regarding Nord Stream 2 and to direct the FAA to prohibit U.S. aircraft from entering Belarus’ air space.)
